Cortinarius melinus Britz. subgenus Leprocybe Cap 1.5-10cm across, convex then plane; yellowish brown to reddish brown; dry, not hygrophanous, finely tomentose-scaly. Gills adnate; deep yellowish then more rusty. Stem 35-65 x 5-l0mm, base slightly swollen; yellowish brown with patches of yellow universal veil. Flesh yellowish brown to pallid. Odor of radish, especially when crushed. Taste mild. Spores broadly ellipsoid to pip-shaped to subspherical, warty, 7.5-8.7 x 5.8-6.8µ, quotient 1.3. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat under spruce. Rare. Found in Colorado. Season August. Not edible. Comment This is a European species recorded for the first time in North America. |
